Who will you be donating to this Pack Your Lunch Day?

I LOVE this idea and really hope that we can get a ton of people to participate! I plan on donating to The Penn State MaraTHON to continue in the fight against pediatric cancer, but I’m also looking to donate to another charity this year. Does anyone have any suggestions? There are so many people who do good in this world and I’d love to hear about a few groups that I don’t already know about!

“Believe deep down in your heart that you’re destined to do great things.”

This year, I will be donating to two different charities.  The first charity that I will be donating to is the Penn State Dance Marathon.  I took part in this 46 hour dance marathon the last two years as a committee member and as a captain.  THON has been a big inspiration in my life as well as the lives of thousands of children, families, and students.   I will also be donating to the Lustgarten Foundation.  This organization raises awareness and research for Pancreatic Cancer.  My mother passed away last year from this horrible disease and I want to help spread the word and raise awareness.  Soon there will be a cure.

I will be making my donation to the Penn State Dance Marathon through my organization Atlas.  This year I will be representing my organization and staying awake for 46 hours straight to dance for a cure to pediatric cancer!  For more information, visit THON.org.  :)

Overview of Pack Your Lunch Day

Pack Your Lunch Day comes from the idea that, on a single day in the year, we can make an enormous impact on our community without each of us donating a large amount of money to charity. After obsessing over the idea that tons of people, each donating a small amount of money, can collectively make a huge impact, I created Pack Your Lunch Day to see just how far the idea could go.

The plan is pretty simple: on February 15th, everyone packs their lunch and donates the money they would have spent on lunch (roughly $5-10) to a charity of their choice.

I’m hoping people use this opportunity to gather in groups with friends, coworkers, even people they’ve never met before to make a collective impact on our community. Just taking a few minutes to pack a lunch allows us to reflect on how lucky we all are and to think about the impact we can make if we all do something as simple as donate our lunch money to a worthy cause.

Please use the Tumblr page to post information on the charity you/your friends/your company plans to donate to; share stories, quotes, and photos; comment on others’ posts; and to spread the word about Pack Your Lunch Day.

Ultimately this is about seeing how much good we can do in just a single day…one lunch of the entire year. This is a great opportunity to take a step back from our busy lives and make a collective difference, so I hope you’ll join and spread the word so we can see just how far this simple idea can go!

Thanks,

Dan Levy

Each of us can make a contribution. Too frequently we think we have to do spectacular things. Yet if we remember that the sea is actually made up of drops of water and each drop counts, each one of us can do our little bit where we are.
